Up till now phishing was troubling e-mail but now it has moved beyond this domain and is attacking VoIP and SMS and here it has got the name of Vishing. What makes VoIP an attractive and easy target for hackers is that you have a lot of numbers which you can call quite easily. Also the returns are terrific for the fraudster. In the case of VoIP all the fraudster needs to do is replace the URLs with phone numbers.



Besides VoIP, SMS phishing is on the rise and it is called Smishing where a victim gets a fictitious SMS telling his bait that in case they didn't cancel their order on the web they would be charged a fee and they get panicky and visit the site which leaves malicious software on their computer.

Such cases are now on the rise and we need to focus on this issue if we would like to increase the popularity of VoIP. One of my wishes for 2007 is secure VoIP.
